Sound Analysis

22 Jump Street

The scene starts of with diegetic sound which involves the two characters having a conversation however 10 seconds into the clip and music starts playing in the background while one of the characters is still talking, this is an example of non-diegetic sound because the characters can not hear it. Additionally, the music played here is parallel to the scene because the character is doing a motivational speech and the music played seems encouraging and fits in well. Furthermore, the music then stops and there is a  video of a man talking on an iPad, this would be another example of diegetic sound since the characters can hear the sound because the iPad is visible in the scene. In addition to that, after the man on the iPad stops talking there is a quick 5 second sound of dramatic music played which is non-diegetic- this sound is parallel because the characters are going on a mission therefore the music played complements the scene. On the other hand, there is a song played which is non-diegetic sound since the characters cannot hear it and this song is also contrapuntal because the characters are holding guns therefore the song played isn't complementing the scene and what the characters are doing. Finally, there is no sign of a sound bridge.
